Postoperative adjuvant therapy

چکیده
Pancreatic cancer is one of the most lethal cancers and has a global survival rate of less than 5% at 5 years. Surgical resection remains the only curative measure but provides a median survival of only 12-15 months, due to the very high rates of both local recurrence and distant metastases1-3. On the basis of this natural history, multiple adjuvant and more recently neoadjuvant therapies have been investigated in order to improve survival. This review is a critical assessment of the results and limitations of such trials and the authors discuss a rationale for the introduction of new developments in the (neo)adjuvant setting of pancreatic cancer.

Adjuvant Therapy for Adenocarcinoma of the Pancreas
The delivery of postoperative combined modality adjuvant therapy for completely resected pancreatic cancer was initially shown to be beneficial on the basis of a prospective, randomized trial published in 1985. Since then, oncologists have debated whether chemotherapy, chemoradiation, or both is optimal adjuvant therapy after pancreatectomy for ductal adenocarcinoma of the pancreas; no global c...
متن کاملGlioblastoma multiforme in conus medullaris with intracranial metastasis after postoperative adjuvant therapy
Spinal glioblastoma multiforme is not common among spinal cord tumors. According to our literature review, only 27 cases originating from the conus medullaris were reported. We herein reported a case of a 10-year-old child diagnosed with glioblastoma multiforme. The patient received adjuvant radiotherapy and standard temozolomide chemotherapy after total excision. Intracranial lesions were foun...

STUDY DESIGN: This prospective randomized clinical trial compared pain relief after major operations in 202 patients who received one of three nursing inte...

For physicians trained in the United States, postoperative combined modality therapy has become the accepted standard for patients with rectal cancer who are at high risk for locoregional and distant recurrence. In 1990, the results of two randomized trials demonstrating improved survival for postoperative chemotherapy with radiation therapy compared with either surgery alone or with postoperat...
متن کاملChronic myelogenous leukemia after postoperative adjuvant S-1 therapy for rectal cancer: a case report.
We report a case in which chronic myelogenous leukemia (CML) developed after postoperative adjuvant S-1 therapy for rectal cancer. A 56-year-old man was diagnosed with rectal adenocarcinoma, which was treated with abdominoperineal resection followed by a year of adjuvant S-1 therapy. At 39 postoperative months, he was diagnosed with CML. Although it remains unclear that CML that develops after ...
